This site collects almost nothing. When it does, it is because you chose to send it. Here is the whole picture.

What we collect
If you submit a tip, we receive what you type: your message, and optionally your name and a way to reach you. Every field except the message is optional. You can send a tip without telling us who you are.
If you attach photos or video, the files are stored privately and only the family can open them. They are never posted. Photos taken on a phone can carry the location where they were taken. That can help the family, but if you would rather not share it, send a screenshot of the photo instead.
While you write a tip, your browser keeps a copy of it in that tab, so a reload or a wrong tap does not lose it. That copy stays on your device. It is erased when you send the tip, and it expires after six hours either way.
We do not run advertising trackers or third-party analytics on this site.
How we use it
Tips go to John's family, who read every one. If you leave contact details, someone may reach out to follow up. If you stay anonymous, no one will.
Tips are delivered to the family by email, sent through the email service Resend. If you leave an email address, we send you one short confirmation that your tip arrived, and nothing else.
We do not publish your name without permission
Tips are not posted publicly. Your name and details are never used in public coverage or on this site unless you give permission. If you are worried about coming forward, you can leave your name out entirely.
Newsletter
Updates are published through Substack. If you subscribe by email, Substack stores your address so it can send you posts. That subscription is handled by Substack under its own privacy policy, and you can unsubscribe at any time from any email.
Spam protection and hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare and uses Cloudflare Turnstile to block spam on the tip form. To do this, Cloudflare processes limited technical information such as your IP address and browser type. This is used to keep the site online and to stop abuse, not to track you.
We do not sell your information
We do not sell, rent, or trade anything you send us, and tips go to no one but John's family.
Removing your information
If you sent a tip and want it deleted, or you want to know what we have, email [email protected] and we will take care of it.
Changes to this page
If anything here changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
